It’s been seven months since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and journalists are still facing mental health challenges today. Considering how tumultuous this year has been in terms of the pandemic, racism, a major election year, and natural disasters, reporters really need to take time out of being a voice for their community to focus on their own wellbeing.

Journalists have been able to adapt and work from home if their newsroom was closed due to financial issues. It is certainly not impossible to do, yet when athletes and actors are staying home for their own safety, it becomes increasingly difficult for the entertainment and sports reporters. TV and movie productions just recently started up again after a long break, as well as sport practices.

BOSTON CITY COUNCIL HOLD MEETING TO RECOMMEND PRECAUTIONS FOR SCHOOL SECURITY AND SAFETY

At a time of uncertainty about returning to school full time during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Boston City Council held a meeting with panelists addressing measures they are taking to ensure public school safety. Community members were able to offer public testimony Thursday Nov. 12, advocating for precautions to be taken by school officials.

On Monday Oct. 19, local residents and panel members addressed their concerns regarding student debt, specifically how payment expectations aren’t being met due to COVID-19. Past or current higher education members spoke on the personal and professional effects the economic fallout of the pandemic had on the national student debt issue. The Boston City Council held this virtual committee meeting for Docket #0888, overseen by counselor at-large and meeting Chair Julia Meijia, accompanied by City Council President Kim Janey of District 7.

JAMAICA PLAIN RESIDENTS SPEAK ABOUT THEIR VIEWS ON NEW LOCAL MEDICAL CANNABIS DISPENSARY CO-SITING

On Thursday, Sept. 24, the city of Boston held an online meeting about the co-siting of a cannabis dispensary. The proposal is for a new store in Jamaica Plain for the company Apothca. Apothca CEO Joseph Lekach explained that they have already successfully co-sited two of their other facilities in the area, one in Arlington in October 2018 and the other in Lynn in October 2019. The store that Apothca hopes to co-site is located on 54A Hyde Park Avenue in Jamaica Plain.
